Body Laser Hair Removal

Many people, both women and men experience hair growth in areas where it causes them discomfort or embarrassment. Apart from being unsightly, it can also at times cause other problems such as ingrown hair or “razor bumps”.

Shaving, waxing and plucking are some of the traditional techniques applied in hair removal, but unfortunately, none of these offers a long-term solution. The Face and Body Place offers Laser Hair Removal which is a more permanent solution to hair reduction. Our Laser Hair Removal treatment is safe and effective for all skin types.

When Do We Advise Against It?

Laser Hair Removal cannot be performed on a pregnant or lactating woman, sunburnt or tanned skin, or bleached, waxed or epilated skin. We advise that you do not perform any of these treatments at least ten days before Laser Hair Removal Treatment.

What Is The Typical Course Of Treatment?

Depending on the amount of hair to be removed, you will need successive treatments at approximately four to six-week intervals. There are three phases of hair growth – anagen, catagen and telogen. Only hairs in the active growth, anagen, can be successfully treated.

Your specialist will discuss the treatment with you and decide if you need a topical anaesthetic cream to numb the area prior to treatment. Depending on your skin type and the colour of the hair to be treated, at The Face and Body Place we have two laser options for hair removal:

  • Sciton Laser
  • Candela Alexandrite Laser

A system for cooling your skin will be used to remove heat as it leaves the follicles and should ensure a comfortable treatment. Let your specialist know if you consider your skin and pain response as.

What Can You / Can’t You Expect From The Treatment?

To see the long last effects of Laser Hair Removal you will need a number of successive treatments in order to obtain a permanent or long-lasting result. Depending on the area being treated, how intense the hair growth is and how large the area is that is being treated, this number of treatments will vary. Treatments are done at four to six-week intervals. Following your treatment, you may notice redness and swelling for the first few hours. To reduce any discomfort, we apply topical anti- inflammatory cream to the area. In addition, you may apply ice.

Not all of your hair will fall out after just one treatment and a number of successive sessions are required for effective treatment. This is because your hair grows in a cyclical pattern and not all hair growth in any given area is at the same stage of a cycle. Only actively growing hair is affected with each treatment.

After your first treatment, you may notice darkening of the hair in that area, , dark pores and redness. This is all temporary and will resolves. After each successive treatment, you will notice that your hair will become finer and may take longer to come back. At the end of your full treatment plan, you may have a few odd regrowth hairs that we treat as a touch-up.

What Are The Unwanted Effects / Risks Of The Treatment?

After Laser Hair Removal you need to avoid or limit sun exposure to both natural sunlight and tanning beds. Always apply sunscreen to your skin when going into the sun.
