LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction Treatment

If you feel you have stubborn fat or unwanted fat deposits in one or other areas or if you are struggling with your body shape, then Liposuction is for you! The removal of unwanted fat deposits or contouring of body areas by Liposuction is a great way to boost your self-confidence and feelings about your body. The Face and Body Place offers you Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) to fulfill your interests in Liposuction, body contouring and body sculpting. There are a variety of procedures offered by other clinicians and facilities that attempt to mirror the results of Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL). These other procedures use technologies that attempt to breakdown or remove fat, however, it is up to the individual to decide the procedure most suited to their needs.

When Do We Recommend Liposuction?

First of all, Liposuction is ideal for patients who want to eliminate areas of fat deposits that are resistant to exercise and diet. These fat deposits give rise to unwanted body shape and are often described by patients as “stubborn fat”. Power-Assisted Liposuction is ideal for patients who want to improve their body shape and have struggled for some time to change that. Similarly, as patients go through different phases of their lives, they find that their body shape is “not what it used to be” and therefore seek out liposuction to assist them.

The body areas that are most commonly a concern for patients and result in their seeking out treatment options are the inner thighs and inner knees, saddlebags or outer thighs, the abdomen, love handles and lower back fat, upper arms, buttocks, and double chins. In men, Liposuction has been found effective in treating unwanted fat deposits in the male chest area. Various areas can be combined in a single treatment.

For example, when contouring the abdomen, it is ideal to combine the abdomen liposuction with the love handles and back fat. That gives what is often described as 360-degree liposuction results- no matter what angle you are looking at you can see the results! The ideal way to sculpt any part of the body with liposuction!

When Do We Advise Against Liposuction?

First of all, a consultation with our resident doctor is critical in the evaluation of a patient as a candidate for liposuction. At the time of consultation, our doctor will assess the patient both with respect to the prior medical and surgical history and the patients’ current state of health. You will have the opportunity to discuss at length, for example, the areas of the body that concern you and at the same time be guided by the insight of our doctor to give you options you might have not considered prior. An example of this would be doing treatments to the inner thigh and thereby relatively enhancing the appearance of the outer thigh. Therefore, an assessment will be done of the areas desired to be treated as well as considerations are given to you by the doctor.

Above all, any patient whose assessment poses risk factors will be advised against the treatment and alternate solutions sought. A couple of examples include pregnancy, patients with a history of liver disease or patients fitted with a pacemaker. Other clinical conditions are assessed individually and are discussed in consultation. If liposuction is not right for you our doctor will guide you in alternate ways to achieve your desired goals.

Together with our doctor, you will be guided on what is best for you. Ultimately the decision for which areas to treat remains with the patient!

Treatments That Can Be Combined With Liposuction?

Our doctor will also guide you in treatments that can be combined with liposuction. These depend on the individual patient but can include for example:

  • skin treatments;
  • cellulite treatments;
  • rejuvenating treatments to the face using fat transfer;
  • scar repair;
  • enhancement of other body areas with fat transfer.

What Are the Side Effects / Risks Of The Treatment?

Bruising, swelling and discomfort are some of the side effects of the treatment. We maintain very high standards of medical and nursing care paying careful attention to issues around sterility and cleanliness. Our standards of care reduce the possibility of infection and other risks to the bare minimum. At the time of your consultation and then again at the pre-operative assessment, our doctor and other medical professionals will review these side effects and risks with you in detail.

What Is the Typical Course Of Liposuction Treatment?

After the initial consultation process and once you have decided to proceed with the treatment, our team of medical professionals will arrange a preoperative consultation for you. At this appointment, you will meet with our doctor and nurse to prepare you for the treatment.

Most importantly, this preoperative assessment includes an in-depth conversation around preparation for the procedure, the actual procedure itself and the aftercare. We take body measurements and photographs of the areas to be treated and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Finally, all the necessary administrative and patient consent forms are completed. Our staff will also provide you with a prescription for pre and post procedure medications such as antibiotics and pain medication which you will bring with you on the day of the procedure.

Our staff will explain how you should prepare for the procedure and the logistics around your arriving at our facility on the appointed day. Our procedure is performed in a dedicated operating room that is part of an operating complex at a day clinic.  We will explain all that will take place during the procedure as well as in the recovery period afterward. In addition, we will educate you on how to take care of yourself at home and as you return to you daily life.

Our follow-up process is essential part of the service we offer and critical to ensuring your non- eventful recovery from liposuction.

What Can You / Can’t You Expect from The Treatment?

Liposuction is a great way to redefine your body! Critical to the success of the treatment is an agreement between you the patient and our doctor on the desired outcomes and expectation. The liposuction treatment is undertaken to redefine those areas of the body that are of concern to you the patient. We will explain the recovery process to you in detail and guide you as to how to return to daily living.

Immediate body responses to liposuction include bruising and swelling and occur to variable degrees in different patients. You will wear a post procedure garment for up to four weeks post the procedure. This is designed to speed the recovery process and limit swelling and discomfort. The garments also give you a great sense of security in going about your daily life after the procedure. Our medical team will guide you in the amount of time you need to take off from work if needed.

Recovery from liposuction is dependent on the areas of the body that are treated and the total amount that is done. Each patient will respond to the procedure and heal in their own way. We will guide you in this through our monthly post- operative assessment process.

Once the recovery has occurred and the necessary healing has taken place there will be a visible improvement in the body contour of the treated area.

DISCLAIMER: BEFORE AND AFTER IMAGES

Suitability, effectiveness of certain treatments and aesthetic results will vary from patients to patients. How Does It Work?

Liposuction is a body sculpting procedure and not a weight loss procedure. It is often found that once a patient has undergone the procedure they pay more attention to their diet and exercise routines, aside from other lifestyle considerations and as a result, there is added weight loss as well. These treatments are inspirational for patients who have struggled with their body shape and have been unable to achieve results through other means.

Once a patient has decided on investigating the possibilities of such treatments a consultation is made with our doctor. The purpose of the consultation is to determine if a candidate is a suitable patient for the procedure. A detailed consultation and examination with all the necessary explanations will enable the patient to make an informed decision. Our preparation process, procedure, and after-care are handled by highly trained professionals who will guide the patient through the entire process.
